Summer staff sought for Moncton’s outdoor pools

The YMCA of Greater Moncton will operate Moncton’s Centennial and East End pools this summer.

Senior Director of Aquatics Joey Doucet says they were approached by the city, “They asked us if we would consider this for a one-year arrangement, for now. We have agreed to take that on.  It is a great opportunity for both the City and the YMCA.”

The pools are expected to operate the same as they have in previous years when they were run by the two local swim clubs, the Codiac Vikings Aquatic Club and Club Natation Bleu et Or.

“We’ll have some early morning lap swims for each location and public swims.  The hours are going to stay the same.  Pricing and entrance fees will also be the same as well,” Doucet adds.

The outdoor pools also offered swimming lessons last year, but Doucet says because it is the YMCA’s first year running them,  they are just trying to get their feet wet, “It’s definitely on the horizon for years to come if we are going to continue. We have a great track record of providing safe aquatic experiences for our members, and we look to carry that over to Centennial and East End pools.”

They’re expected to open June 24th, for a ten-week season.   They’ll close on the Labour Day weekend.

Doucet says the priority now is finding over 40 staff including Lifeguards and Cashiers.

“We are accepting applications and resumes right now. Lifeguards must be at least 16 years old and must have their NLS certificate. First Aid is also required as well, but we can offer that training prior to starting,” Doucet says.

One change this summer will be that the pools will not be taking cash. Payments must be made using a debit or credit card, or you can purchase a season pass that you’ll show each time you want to swim.

Those interested in applying can drop a resume at either of the YMCA locations on Vaughn Harvey or in the North end, or email to joey.doucet@YMCAMoncton.ca
