ONA rally set for today

Members of the Ontario Nurses Association Local 73 will be rallying in Thunder Bay once again in support of their bargaining team as they negotiate in Toronto.

Today’s rally is slated to take place at 12:30 p.m. on Memorial Avenue near Best Buy, meanwhile thousands are expected to march out front of the Sheraton Hotel in Toronto where the negotiations are taking place.

Bargaining between ONA and the Ontario Hospital Association have been ongoing since January 30th.

The nurses say hospitals in Ontario have been dealing with unsafe workloads, dangerous working conditions and longer patient wait times…all factors in what has lead to increased levels of burnout and made many leave the profession altogether.

They are seeking better staffing ratios, wages and patient care.

Last week nurses rallied near the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre as part of a second collective action, the first being a sticker campaign which began at the beginning of February.
