Increased community policing is proving to be positive, that according to Codiac RCMP Superintendent Ben Jolette.

With so many living rough in Moncton, Jolette says they were out in the extreme cold along with patrols, over the weekend checking neighbourhoods, “Just being visible and actually going out looking for anybody. There were fewer calls for service during the cold weather and the high winds, and officers were out there every day and night. Specifically looking to make sure nobody was left outside and that was their main goal for the weekend. Happy to say that there were no reports of any injuries serious injuries or any casualties.”

Jolette adds the addition of the extra homeless shelters has also resulted in fewer calls for service for RCMP.

Community officers have also been attending community events, and are in schools, “We’re trying to hit everything. So if there’s any kind of community events or anything, we’d ask anybody just let us know because we’d love to be out there and connect the community,” Jolette adds.
