Hundreds have turned out to consultations in response to proposed French learning changes for schools, and many of them were teachers.

The  New Brunswick Teachers Association says a recent poll of the membership indicates that 65 percent of teachers stated ‘dismayed’ best describes their professional view on the Innovative Immersion Program.

Almost 90 percent didn’t think Education and Early Childhood Development are keeping them well informed of the changes.

“Teachers’ comments in the poll also illustrate that the government’s proposed Innovative Immersion Program is ignoring the findings of its own studies which state that the Inclusion model is not properly resourced, and more support is required in each school to respond to the diverse needs of students,” states Connie Keating, President of the New Brunswick Teachers’ Association.

A letter was sent to the Association membership on Monday, in response to inquiries from those who say they were uncertain about what they could and couldn’t say during these public meetings.

Another consultation will be held tonight at the Delta Fredericton, starting at 6:30 pm, followed by two virtual consultations.
