The holiday season often leaves us with more waste than usual to get rid of.

Saint John households will be able to do just that without having to pay extra.

The city says you will be able to put out extra garbage for the first pickup of 2023.

Those on a weekly pickup schedule can place an extra bag without a bag tag during the first week of January.

If you are on a biweekly pickup schedule, you can do so on your regular pickup day between Jan. 1 and 13.

“While the holiday season tends to generate more waste, residents and households are encouraged to continue to reduce what they throw in the garbage,” the city said in a news release.

The city offers a few tips to do that, such as reusing gift bags, composting food scraps, and recycling cardboard and plastic packaging when possible.
