Flu Season Has Started Early In NWO

By Katie Nicholls Nov 1, 2022 | 5:49 PM

Influenza has landed early in northwestern Ontario.

In speaking with Dr. Janet DeMille, the Medical Officer of Heath for the district of Thunder Bay, indicated that cases have grown quickly in the region.

According to her, confirmed cases of the flu for the past two weeks are upwards of 150 patients.

This is concerning because of the quick escalation of cases in Thunder Bay residents as well as it happening two weeks ahead of what’s normally expected.

Shots are widely available at pharmacies, doctors offices and clinics.

Flu shots are encouraged for high risk individuals including;

  • People 65 years old or older
  • People with chronic illnesses (such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease or lung disease)
  • Children 6 months to 4 years old
  • People who are pregnant
  • Indigenous people

More details about the clinics can be found here with the health unit. here with the health unit.
