Bridgewater Police Investigating Halloween Hate Crime

By Evan Taylor Nov 1, 2022 | 4:28 PM

The Bridgewater Police Service is investigating a potentially targeted hate crime that took place sometime on Halloween night.

A Bridgewater resident posted on Facebook that upon waking up after Halloween they discovered their car had been scratched and marked with a racial epithet along with a homophobic slur.

Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell has already posted on social media expressing his outrage that someone would be willing to do this in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater has been experiencing a recent surge in vandalism but Mitchell noted in an interview that this situation is different. “This was not random, this was a targeted attack and my understanding is that this makes it a hate crime, which is a very serious thing and it’s heartbreaking to be the Mayor of a town where this happens,” Mitchell said.

Although he couldn’t say with certainty Mitchell does not believe the incident on Halloween was related to the other incidents of vandalism that have recently taken place in Bridgewater.

The original post from the victim indicates they believe the incident took place sometime after 10:30 p.m.

Bridgewater Police have been notified of the incident and are investigating, anyone with information is asked to contact them at 902-543-2464.
