Good reminders of how to protect your family from fire.

A Fire Prevention Open House at the Hildegarde Fire hall will be held on October 1st.

Moncton Fire Prevention Officer Steve Richardson says the theme for the week this year is ‘Fire won’t wait, plan your escape, “Whether you’re at home, visiting friends, away on vacation in the Caribbean and something happens, plan your way out. Know your surroundings. Very important for fire but also if there is some other kind of emergency. If something does happen, how am I going to get out of here? How am I going to locate the rest of my family if I am travelling with them or a group of people?   Plan your escape.   If a fire happens, it can happen quickly.   It could be somewhere else in the building, it could be across the street, it could be above you, you never know.”

He suggests you try out your escape plan, with a practice run. Your family should pick a spot where you will all meet in case of an emergency.

He also recommends if you have pets,  decide who will be responsible for them in the case of an emergency.

This is the first Fire Prevention Open House to be held in two years in Moncton due to the pandemic.

Firefighters will be on hand to talk to the kids, and there will be a number of displays with information on things like floods, recycling, the Canadian Red Cross,  auto extrication and discussions surrounding fire safety.

The Open house will be held from 10 am until 2 pm.
