An eight-year recycling project is coming to an end.

Re-centre locations in Greater Moncton will close on October 31st.

General Manager Encorps Atlantic Pierre Landry says around 2200 participants dropped off beverage containers since 2014.

The containers were then processed and counted off-site, with refunds deposited into their Re-Centre accounts.

They also offered feedback during the project, “We learned consumers want to access and convenience above all. They want more flexible options to recycle and they hate waiting,” Landry says.

Initially, the project was only planned for three years.

“In July, the Government of New Brunswick announced that it’s implementing regulatory changes to the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage container recycling program in the province,” says Landry, “This means that many positive changes are on the horizon. I’d say within the next couple of years, we’ll see a new version of that technology appearing across New Brunswick.”

Participants will want to note the following dates:

  • Sept. 26, 2022: Last day to purchase Re-Centre bags.
  • Oct. 31, 2022 – 11 p.m.: Re-Centres will close permanently. Participants use other Greater Moncton-area redemption centres after this date.
  • Nov. 13, 2022: Deadline for processing containers picked up from Re-Centres. Participants’ final payments due may not show up in their accounts until this date.
  • Dec. 31, 2022: Last day to request a payout via www.re-centre.ca or via the Re-Station kiosk at Sobeys Vaughan Harvey.
