The federal NDP is taking credit for the measures announced yesterday by the prime minister to make life more affordable to the average Canadian.
The includes hiking the GST rebate for six months and a one-time top up for the housing benefit.
Leader Jagmeet Singh says the NDP are also claiming responsibility for the dental care program.
“What we forced this government to do…dental care starting with kids under the age of 12,” Singh said in a news conference.
“Families will receive money in their pockets. A cheque will be sent out to them to cover the cost of going to see a dentist. This is real support for families.”
Singh says this is just the start of the dental care program.
“Got it in writing. We forced the government to deliver on a large project like dental care. That’s a multi-year project. It’s going to take a number of years to develop and we’re proud that we’re able to use our power to get something meaningful for Canadians…to force this government to do something meaningful for Canadians.”
Singh made his comments on Tuesday in Thunder Bay, wrapping up his tour is northern Ontario.
