A congratulatory message from the Liberals to the new federal Conservative Leader also came with criticism of Pierre Poilievre’s campaign.

Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic Leblanc says it came with reckless and irresponsible ideas and policies that won’t work for all Canadians.

“We’ve always thought that as a government, we need to work hard to support Canadians to build an economy that works for all Canadians to do the work of governing, that Canadians elected us to do so we’re not going to lose that focus. What this leadership campaign has done for the Conservative Party is bring a series of rather reckless and irresponsible ideas and policies that we don’t think are in the best interest of Canada in terms of building an economy that works for all Canadians.  Mr. Poilievre said that the childcare agreements, which are very important in terms of affordability for families, he called those childcare agreements, a slush fund. He’s told people that we could have avoided inflation if we’d invested in Bitcoin. I mean, these are the kinds of irresponsible policies which we don’t think, say you’re serious about governance,” Leblanc says.

The Minister was also asked whether he is concerned about recent low approval ratings for the Prime Minister.

“We’re some years away from an election. As we know, if somebody had said to you three years ago, that the world would go through a global pandemic, that we’d have some of the economic disruptions that the world is facing now, that you’d have the horrible circumstance of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Three years is a long time in politics. Our job as a government is to continue to do the work that we’re committed to doing and that Canadians asked us to do. We’ll let the Conservative Party explain their own reckless choices. We’ll let Canadians judge over the coming months,” Leblanc says.

Pierre Poilievre was chosen on September 10th as the new Federal Conservative Party leader.
