A Riverview woman who lost 51 pounds with the help of TOPS is being recognized.

Bobbie Chapman was honoured this year as the 2021 New Brunswick Queen.

The Taking Off Pounds Sensibly program awards the crown to those who record the largest weight loss from their starting weight.

Chapman was honoured in May during the New Brunswick virtual recognition event.

Chapman has been a member of TOPS since 1994, but the pandemic motivated her, “During COVID, because there were so many long periods of seeing nobody, and there were no social events, I really delved in and that is what made the difference for me When I really put my mind to it, and I listened to a lot of podcasts, I reached my goal within four months and I kept losing. Pretty soon, I was way below my goal so I had to make a new goal, much lower than my original one 30 years ago.”

Chapman believes a low-fat diet doesn’t work, she just focuses on eating only until she is full and she enjoys walking as a form of exercise.

TOPS provides an individual approach to weight loss and overall wellness.

Consistent group support, health education, and recognition are all key components to successful weight management.

New Brunswick has an adult obesity rate of 35.3 percent.

In 2021, TOPS members in New Brunswick lost a cumulative 4,598 pounds.
