N.B. Nabs Three More Medals At Canada Summer Games

Three more medals for Team New Brunswick at the Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ont.

All of Wednesday’s hardware was won by track and field athletes from Saint John and Fredericton.

Isaac Cull claimed silver in the men’s 3000-metre steeplechase, Ryan Evans mined a silver medal in the men’s decathlon, and Lexie Shannon won bronze in the women’s triple jump.

New Brunswick now has 14 medals at this year’s Canada Summer Games: two gold, four silver, and eight bronze.

In women’s golf, Callie Taylor shot a first-round score of 78 while Addison McClune of Rothesay shot a round of 85. The men’s event saw Julie Babineau of Dieppe shoot a first-round score of 74 and Jacob Rockwood of Quispamsis shoot a round of 78. Second-round action takes place on Thursday.

Our women’s soccer team defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 3-nil and will play Nova Scotia on Thursday.

In men’s softball, New Brunswick lost 9-4 to Newfoundland and Labrador and 4-2 to Alberta. We play British Columbia and Manitoba on Thursday.

A pair of losses for the men’s box lacrosse team, 7-3 against Quebec and 8-4 against Saskatchewan. New Brunswick will play Prince Edward Island on Thursday evening.

The men’s volleyball team lost 3-1 to Alberta while the women’s team fell 3-0. Both teams play Saskatchewan on Thursday.

In canoe kayak, Kyra Hector of Quispamsis claimed ninth in the women’s 1000 metre consolation finals while Jon Magee of Rothesay claimed eighth in the men’s 1000 metre consolation finals. Kayakers will participate in the K1 200 metre female and male and K2 mixed 500 metre events on Thursday.

Rowing advanced to the men’s pair A final on Wednesday. The men’s quad and women’s lightweight advance to the B finals. The rowers hit the water again Thursday in the five events.

Sailing returns on Thursday with Morgan Haslett of Saint John entering the women’s single handed laser radial second race in sixth place. Saint John’s Connor Sullivan enters the men’s single handed laser second race in ninth place.

Als on Thursday, road cycling returns with the women’s and men’s road race.
