District Election Candidates

More candidates are filing for elections in communities across the Rainy River District for this fall’s municipal and school board votes.

Janelle Zacharias added her name to the list of candidates seeking a seat as councillor with the town of Atikokan.

She is the seventh candidate vying for the six available seats.

Robert Burns is seeking reelection as the district’s east rep to the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board.

In Alberton township, former reeve Mike Hammond is making another run at the top council spot.

He was defeated in the last municipal election by Mike Ford.

There are now three candidates vying for reeve in LaVallee township.

Lucille MacDonald is the latest to file and will go up against incumbent Ken McKinnon and former reeve Emily Watson.

In Dawson township, Doug Hartnell is seeking to become reeve, while five others have filed for councillor.

There are current reeve Bill Langner, incumbents Cory Larocque and Brent Sands and challengers Timo Brielmann and Lewis Kempf.

Lake of the Woods township sees Mayor Colleen McFadden seeking another term in office.

Incumbents Nancy Gate, Cindy Chojko-Bolec and Bill Lundgren and Kaitlyn Cottam are on the ballot for councillor.

In Rainy River, Deb Ewald is seeking another term as mayor.

Incumbent Robert Brent Helgeson, Gordon Prost, Florence Newman and Joel Hagart are running for the councillor positions.

David Sharp is seeking reelection as the trustee to the Northwest Catholic District School Board representing the far west end of the district.

The deadline to file is August 19 at 2 p.m.
