Back to School Money Saving Tips

Aug 16, 2022 | 11:59 AM

The school year is almost here, and personal finance expert Rubina Ahmed Haq has some money saving tips for parents and caregivers.

The average family spends $700 getting ready for the school year and its highly recommended to only purchase supplies that you need and buy second hand whenever possible. This is especially true when buying back to school clothes.

Its also recommended to wait until you receive a list of school supplies needed from a teacher before you shop, so you know what you need without overspending and not buying unnecessary items.

When buying school lunches, make a list of things your family members want and only pack items that your child will eat, this way you can ensure your child will eat their lunch so that food won’t go to waste. Wasted food means wasted money.  Buying items that are on sale is another great money saving method.

Its important to talk to children about money so that they understand not only how money works but so they understand what their parents can afford to purchase for them.
