Third Name Added to Fort Frances Ballot

A second member of Fort Frances town council has filed for reelection.

Wendy Brunetta is seeking a third term in office in October’s municipal election.

She feels council needs some experienced voices around the table.

“We need some consistency on council from the last term to this term, so I’m happy to put my name forward for another term. I’m really excited about things that are in the works, and I hope to see come to fruition in the next term,” says Brunetta.

Brunetta says her background in human resources and finance are attributes that can be important to council’s decision-making.

She also feels her eight years in office can help others new to the position.

“It’s a huge learning curve for new people. Because we’re going to have so many new people, I really hope that I mentor the new people. I did have great mentors when I first got elected.”

Brunetta admits it was a challenging four years with the municipality faced with COVID restrictions the last two years and flooding this season.

She says that impacted on council.

“I really found it so much less productive because of all those other obstacles we had to deal with, COVID and flooding. I feel like we didn’t get as much done as I really wanted to get done in the last term.”

Along with her councillor duties, Brunetta has served as a district representative to the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association.

She also serves on the Northwestern Health Unit’s Board of Directors and sits on the area’s physician recruitment and retention committee.

As of Monday morning, there are three people on the ballot for councillor.

Brunetta joins fellow-incumbent Mike Behan and political newcomer Kaleb Firth.

Nominations closed on August 19 at 2 p.m.
